Algiers is the largest city and the heartbeat of Algeria. Sometimes nicknamed El-Behdja or alternatively Alger la Blanche ("Algiers the White") for the glistening white of its buildings as seen rising up from the sea, it is a city of rare beauty, very friendly and hospitable people. Most of the interesting sights are in the old part of the city known as the Casbah or Medina.
