Lelystadis amunicipalityand acityin the centre of theNetherlands, and it is thecapitalof theprovinceofFlevoland. The city, built on reclaimed land, was founded in 1967 and was named afterCornelis Lely, who engineered theAfsluitdijk, making the reclamation possible.

Due to the manyshipwrecksin Flevoland, Lelystad now houses the National Centre for MaritimeHistory, with amuseumand theshipyardthat has built theBataviareplica.Built on the seabed of the formerZuiderzee, the city alsohas several amazing tourist attractions.
